2000 Honorary Alumni Award

Ed Holzwarth

EdAs a Country Companies insurance adjuster, Holzwarth was transferred to Macomb in summer 1964. He joined the Macomb Fire Department in 1966. In addition to serving as the Macomb fire chief from 1977 until his retirement in 1991, Holzwarth has served as a volunteer for the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program. He was a volunteer coach for the Macomb girls' softball traveling team in the late 1970s. He has also been active in the YMCA, Macomb Kiwanis Club, McDonough County Heart Association, McDonough County Cancer Association, the McDonough County United Way and the Macomb High School Booster Club.

Over the years, Holzwarth has served on three search committees for Â鶹´«Ã½ coaches. In addition, he has served on the Â鶹´«Ã½ Athletic Club, and is currently on the fundraising committee for the new Â鶹´«Ã½ Football Training facility. Holzwarth and his wife, Sue, a Â鶹´«Ã½ graduate, are avid Â鶹´«Ã½ and Macomb High School sports fans, attending volleyball, football, softball and basketball events. The Holzwarths have four children, all Â鶹´«Ã½ graduates: Sue, Sandy, Mike and Terri.

"I'm honored to present this year's award to Ed," said Gordy Taylor, associate vice president for alumni programs. "Based on his support for Â鶹´«Ã½ most people assume he is a graduate of Â鶹´«Ã½. He epitomizes that quality individual who makes a difference in our community.
